Abstract

Background: The application of patient centered care by nurses is an important thing that must be considered. In addition to provide health services, nurses also act as educators and preceptors to the prospective nurse students (preceptee). The Preceptors’ competence is something that must be considered because the preceptor must convey and provide an example to the preceptee so that a preceptor must have a lot of knowledge and competent.ResearchObjectives: To determine the correlation between the implementation ofpatient centered care and the preceptors’ cognitive competence in RSJD Dr. RM. Soedjarwadi, Central Java Province.ResearchMethods: This research is a quantitative correlation study with a cross sectional design. The population in this study was the preceptors in RSJD Dr. RM. Soedjarwadi, Central Java Province as many as 22 preceptors. The sampling technique used was a total sampling of 22 respondents which consist of, 7 respondents experienced drop out so that the total respondents were 15 respondents. The research instrument used was a questionnaire from Gwen and Jane (2012). The data was analyzed by using Spearman Rank test.Results: The results of the study of the patient centered care implementation were mostly in the very good category (93.3%), all respondents had very competent preceptor cognitive competences (100%).Conclusion: There is a correlation between the implementation of patient centered care and preceptor cognitive competence in RSJD Dr. RM. Soedjarwadi, Central Java Province marked with p-value = 0.000 (p, 0.005)
