Abstract

Background: A common eye disease is cataracts that can lead to vision impairment. Cataracts are a condition in which the lens of the eye becomes cloudy. One of the biggest causes is the increase in blood sugar levels Research objective: Knowing the relationship of cataract events with diabetes mellitus in the poly eye of RSPAU dr S Hardjolukito Yogyakarta. Methods: This type of research is a quantitative observational retrospective analytics with case control approach in RSPAU poly eye dr S Hardjolukito Yogyakarta. The population in this study is all patients who have experienced eye disorders / diseases that have been treated. Sampling techniques use consecutive sampling with a total of 33person grup samples and 33persin grup controls. Data analysis using chi square test with computerized. Results: The results showed that the incidence of cataracts accompanied by diabetes mellitus was 75.8%. The test results found a significant association between cataract incidence and diabetes mellitus (p=0.000) with moderate relationship strength (r =0.455) and odd ratio of 7,188 (IK 95% 2,420 – 21,347). Conclusion: There is a significant association between cataract incidence and diabetes mellitus in RSPAU poly eye dr S Hardjolukito Yogyakarta.
